Professional Development
When I take on the role of guiding and training others, it's not only a display of my expertise but also a means of enhancing my understanding. By breaking down complex concepts and supporting fellow learners, I contribute to their growth while also reinforcing my knowledge. This dynamic process sets in motion a cycle of continuous learning, where teaching becomes a powerful tool for cementing my grasp of the subject. Sharing knowledge isn't just about showcasing my accomplishments; it's about nurturing a deeper connection to the topic and sparking ongoing curiosity and innovation. With over a decade of experience providing professional development training to educators and peers, I find immense joy in sharing my educational journey, infusing the professional development sessions I lead with passion and enthusiasm.
Going Green in the Classroom
I had the opportunity to present at a state EdTech conference in Virginia where I shared my successful experience of incorporating Green screen technology into my first-grade classroom with over 100 educators. During the presentation, I demonstrated how to use the tool and discussed practical ways to integrate it into teaching. The focus was on enhancing instructional content rather than replacing it. After collecting survey feedback, we found that all participants were satisfied, and 89% confirmed they would use the tool in their classrooms. Many educators contacted me by email for additional resources and implementation tips. I also collaborated with attendees to plan cross-curricular lessons incorporating Green screen technology into upcoming units.
Play to Learn Book Study Facilitation
I led a book study centered around the book "Play to Learn: Everything You Need to Know About Designing Effective Learning Games," authored by Sharon Boller and Karl Kapp. Within our department, there was a keen desire to explore integrating gamification and learning games into our course designs. To kick off each week's training, we engaged in playing a game, followed by thoughtful discussions about the various aspects we found enjoyable or less so. These insights guided us as we crafted practical games upon completing the study, which extended for seven weeks.
